Abstract :

The aim of this work is to study various maintenance policies under Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) environment using simulation approach by evaluating throughput and availability. Then it indentified the best maintenance policy. Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) and Mean Time To Failure (MTTR) values are assumed to be Exponential distribution of 500minitues to 4000minitues in step of 500 and Normal distribution of mean 100minutes with std.dev10minutess respectively. In this work three existing maintenance polices namely Fully Reliable System (FRS), Corrective Maintenance Policy(CMP), Blocked based Preventive Maintenance (PM) with Corrective Maintenance (CM) policy(BBP) considered in addition to that the author has proposed new policy called HYBRID policy which are combination all three existing policies. Four simulation models have been developed using FLEXSIM simulation software and analysed with several experiments and shows that maintenance of any form has significant effect on performance measures of the FMS. However, the type of maintenance applied is important and should be carefully studied before implementation. The implication of this work is that any FMS system under consideration must be analyzed with respect to several maintenance policies and the best policy should be selected before blindly implementing a policy

Abstract :

The third world war will be for water is said by researchers. The long-term development of the global water situation is closely connected to the growth of the world population and global climate change. Constant growth of the world’s population, which is forecasted to be nearly doubled from 3.4 billion in 2009 to 6.3 billion people in 2050, is attended by a predicted needed growth of agriculture production of 70%, by 2050. Currently, 64 billion cubic meters of fresh water are progressively consumed each year.  A group of leading climate impact researchers have shown that climate change possibly exacerbates the regional and global water scarcity. They predict that global warming of 2°C above present temperatures will confront an additional approximately 15% of the global population with a severe decrease in water resources and will increase the number of people living under absolute water scarcity (<500 m3 per capita per year) by at least another 40% compared with the effect of population growth alone. The adaptation of highly advanced nanotechnology to traditional process engineering offers new opportunities for development of advanced water and wastewater technology processes. Here, an overview of recent advances in nanotechnologies for water and wastewater processes is provided, including nanobased materials, processes, and their applications. Besides the promising technological enhancements, the limitations of nanotechnology for water applications, such as laws and regulations as well as potential health risks, are reported.

Abstract :

The present study describes the elemental composition of essential and traces contents of two organs of Pistacia lentiscus L. plants. The samples were collected from plants growing wild in the Tiaret region of Western Algeria. In this work, we focus to analyze red fruits and leaves extracted from the plants by k0-based on neutron activation analysis technique in our laboratory, the samples were prepared including drying, crushing, sifting and homogenizing before the irradiation step. The samples were introduced in the pure aluminum capsule for irradiation during 3 hours in the experimental channel at Es-Salam research reactor.  In the irradiation position, the neutron flux parameters a = 0.027, f = 28.8 and Fth = 3.761013 (n/cm2.s) were determined experimentally by several techniques. Twenty one elements were measured for both samples. Essential elements such as Ca, K, Fe, Na and Zn were found relatively higher in the red fruits than in the leaves except for calcium and iron. In the other hand, almost of the concentration values of trace elements are comparable in red fruits and leaves. For this study, the concept (QC/QA) is considered to evaluate the accuracy of the method. It was established by analyzing certified reference materials representing leaves matrix. Two CRMs NIST 1573a tomato leaves and GSV4 tea leaves were analyzed simultaneously with the samples. Three statistical parameters Z-score, U-score and bias were determined and discussed.

Abstract :

As a successor of World Bank’s sponsored Walled City Lahore Project, the Walled City Lahore Authority (WCLA) came into being with the passing of the Walled City Lahore Authority Act, 2012 by the Government of Punjab. Being an autonomous and dedicated body, it is mandated to run the functions of the entire Walled City Lahore with the help of Government of Punjab, World Bank, Agha Khan Cultural Program, Norwegian Embassy and other international donors and partners. The WCLA has carried out a tremendous job for restoration of Dehli Gate and adjoining areas, Shahi Hammam and Wazir Khan Mosques and has established a need for cultural preservation. Development of tourism enhancing products like Riksha Service, Khaba Ustad, Tourist Bus Service and guided tours of the WCL have positively contributed towards tourism promotion. Many other similar projects are still in the pipeline. Being a nascent organization, the WCLA is facing sustainability challenges (financial, institutional and operational), coordination hurdles (tussles amongst the departments over resources and jurisdiction), setting right the market strategies, addressing mistrust of the stakeholders and converting cultural preservation, restoration and urban improvements into phenomenal tourism business opportunity for the residents of the Walled City. The success of the WCLA lies in making itself sustainable and replicable model by improving the framework about implementation of building codes and land zoning, targeting international tourist market to capture maximum boon for Pakistan, providing livelihood to the vulnerable or displaced strata concentrated in the Walled City of Lahore. Having said this, it is also important to formulate an overarching national conservation and tourism policy which is bound to serve as a beacon for managers of the Walled City to make it best international tourist destination.

Abstract :

The secret of business success is no longer in single transaction of the good or service, but in the strategic issues surrounding the deal. In this sense, the logistics activity went on to occupy a prominent place in enterprises, is not just another management tool, is one of the essential elements for the success of companies, in particular to commercials. Thus, for this study, we have started from a situation-problem on the importance of logistics in the operation of a commercial enterprise operations, taking into account the study in CASACON trading company, located in Luanda-Angola. Therefore, the claim is exactly analyze the impact of logistics on the operations of commercial enterprises, seeking subsidies in a company in the Angolan market, the CASACON, as a way to understand the practical importance that this activity has on a daily basis. It was found that the logistics of CASACON covers the entire supply chain, from the acquisition of products (suppliers) to its deliver to consumers. The inference was possible due to the application of a qualitative analysis, exploratory approach through field study and application of semi- structured interview with those responsible for the company's operations. Of the various elements questioned, logistics occupied a prominent place in the responses and activities performed within the company. It is possible to show that commercial companies, such as CASACON, have the logistics as a differentiator and strategically important to the success of your operations system, therefore, logistics is a determining factor in the CASACON system.

Abstract :

Leakage power has become a serious concern in Nanometre CMOS technologies, and power-gating has shown to offer a viable solution to the problem with a small penalty in performance. This paper focuses on leakage power reduction through automatic insertion of sleep transistors for power-gating. In particular, we propose a novel, layout-aware methodology that facilitates sleep transistor insertion and virtual-ground routing on row-based layouts. We also introduce a clustering algorithm that is able to handle simultaneously timing and area constraints, and we extend it to the case of multi- sleep transistors to increase leakage savings. The results we have obtained on a set of benchmark circuits show that the leakage savings we can achieve are, by far, superior to those obtained using existing power-gating solutions and with much tighter timing and area constraints Leakage power is a major concern in sub-90-nm CMOS technology. The exponential increase in the leakage component of the total chip power can be attributed to threshold voltage scaling, which is essential to maintain high performance in active mode, since supply voltages are scaled. Numerous design techniques have been proposed to reduce standby leakage in digital circuits. Out of this rich set of solutions, power gating has proven to be a very effective approach to minimize standby leakage while keeping high speed in the active mode. It is based on the principle of adding devices, called sleep transistors in series to the pull-up and/or the pull-down of the logic gates, and turning them off when the circuit is idle, thereby decreasing the leakage component due to IDS sub-threshold currents. When an NMOS sleep transistor is used on the pull down path, a SLEEP signal controls its active/standby mode.

Abstract :

There are a number of heat transfer enhancement techniques to enhance the rate of heat transfer without affecting much the overall performance of the system. Those techniques are broadly classified into active and passive techniques. Passive techniques are the methods used to enhance heat transfer rate without the use of external power. Inserts, Extended surface, Surface modifications, Use of additives are the generally used passive methods. Inserts refers to the additional arrangement made inside the tube which act as an obstacle for the fluid flow. A lot of research work has been carried out in this field by adopting different shapes of inserts. Most of them have shown there can be a remarkable increment in heat transfer. Among those researches most of them have mainly concentrated on keeping inserts in the heating part of the heat exchanger. In present work the concentration is made in the heat exchanger part where cooling of working fluid takes place. Wire coil inserts are fitted on both sides of the inner tube of concentric tube heat exchanger and the enhancement in the heat transfer rate is analyzed

Abstract :

Attenuated Total Reflectance-Fourier Transform Mid Infrared Spectroscopy (ATR-FTMIR), combined with chemometric  methods, has been used to quantify the roasted barley content  in a binary mixture with Arabica coffee samples, as a means for controlling and avoiding coffee adulteration, which is a very important issue taking into account the great variability of the final sale price depending on coffee varietal origin. Blends of Arabica coffee with different percentages of roasted barley were measured using ATR-FTIR spectroscopy. Spectral and reference data were firstly analyzed by principal component analysis (PCA). Partial least square regression (PLSR) was used to establish calibration model.  Excellent correlation between ATR-FTIR analysis and studied coffee blends was obtained R2 = 0.99;  with Root Mean Square Errors of Prediction < 0.34, Limit of Detection 1.012%, and Relative Prediction Errors as low as 2.054. This result demonstrated the feasibility of ATR-FTIR spectroscopy combined with chemometrics to quantify successfully binary mixtures of Arabica coffee in the 0–45 % weight ratio range of roasted barley with a reliable, rapid and inexpensive tool without the need for sample preparation.

Abstract :

The Climate impact studies in hydrology often rely on climate change information at fine spatial resolution. However, general circulation models (GCMs), which are among the most advanced tools for estimating future climate change scenarios, operate on a coarse scale. Therefore the output from a GCM has to be downscaled to obtain the information relevant to hydrologic studies. In this paper, a support vector machine (SVM) approach is proposed for statistical downscaling of precipitation at monthly time scale. The effectiveness of this approach is illustrated through its application to Malaprabha Sub-basin in India. First, climate variables affecting spatio-temporal variation of precipitation in the study area  are identified. SVM downscaling model is developed to downscale precipitation at a monthly scale. Further, the model is applied to downscale future precipitation data for the study area. Results show the increasing trend in precipitation for the future period. SVM is compared with the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model and the performance is evaluated. It is shown that SVM is best suitable model for downscaling precipitation for the study area.

Abstract :

A modular cascaded H-bridge multilevel photovoltaic (PV) inverter with Fuzzy Logic Controller for three-phase grid-connected applications is presented in this paper. This topology helps to enhance the flexibility and efficiency of PV   inverter systems. Due to the PV mismatches, unbalanced current is injected into the grid which leads to many power quality issues. Modulation compensation scheme is proposed in the control scheme of inverter to eliminate the adverse effects of PV mismatches. A distributed maximum power point tracking scheme is applied to inverter topology for better utilization and to maximize the solar energy extraction from PV modules. For efficacious functioning of cascaded inverter, Fuzzy logic controller is utilized in the control scheme. To verify the feasibility of the proposed approach, a three phase seven level cascaded multilevel inverter is modeled and simulation results are presented by utilizing MATLAB/SIMULINK.

Abstract :

The main purpose of the current study is to investigate the influence of exposure duration (ED) of clothing color on aesthetic judgments. In this study, clothing pictures with four contrasts of color combinations (45 °, 90 °, 135 ° and 180 ° in hue interval) served as stimuli and were evaluated at three EDs (50ms, 200ms and 1000ms) by 48 participants in a behavioral experiment. The results confirm previous findings that the higher contrast of color combinations is less attractive. The ED hardly impacts on the aesthetic scores, while it influences significantly on the difficulty of aesthetic judgments, the shorter the ED, the harder to perform aesthetic task. The results also indicate that the aesthetic cognitive process of clothing colors is immediate and consistent.

Abstract :

Fuzzy clustering algorithms are based on Euclidean distance function, which can only be used to detect spherical structural clusters. A Fuzzy C-Means algorithm based on Mahalanobis distance (FCM-M) was proposed to improve those limitations of GG and GK algorithms, but it is not stable enough when some of its covariance matrices are not equal. A new improved Fuzzy C-Means algorithm based on a Normalized Mahalanobis distance (FCM-NM) is proposed. Method integrates Fuzzy Logic Model of Perception (FLMP) and Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM). The combined algorithm could analyze individualized concepts structure based on the comparisons with concept structure of expert. Integrated method and algorithm can help to analysis knowledge structure and cognition diagnosis. Cooperating fuzzy clustering and graphic structures analysis, that features of knowledge structures of each cluster are clearly displayed. Furthermore, Combined with fuzzy clustering algorithm based on normalized Mahalanobis distance could be very feasible for cognition diagnosis. Based on the findings and results, it shows that knowledge structures will be feasible for remedial instruction and this procedure will also useful for cognition diagnosis.

Abstract :

This paper presents a fuzzy controlled bridgeless-single ended primary inductance converter (BL-SEPIC) fed four switch three phase (FSTP) brushless DC (BLDC) motor drive for low power household applications. Bridgeless configuration offers lower conduction losses due to the elimination of diode bridge rectifier (DBR) at the front end. Other merits of bridgeless PFC topology are: less component counts, simple structure, electrical isolation, and simple control circuitry. Fuzzy logic control has been implemented for converter switching control. The BLDC motor is excited by a Four Switch Three Phase Inverter with minimum number of switches which in turn reduce the associated switching losses. It results in low electromagnetic interference, less complexity of control. The speed of the BLDC motor is controlled by adjusting the DC link voltage of the VSI feeding a BLDC motor. The VSI feeding BLDC motor is used for achieving an electronic commutation of the BLDC motor and operates in a low frequency switching for reduced switching losses in it. The entire control concept has been implemented using MATLAB/ Simulink model.

Abstract :

We develop a novel technique for resizable Hadoop clusters lower bounds, the template matching rectangular array of bloom filtering expressions. Specifically, fix an arbitrary hybrid kernel function  and let  be the rectangular array of bloom filtering expressions whose columns are each an application of  to some subset of the variables . We prove that  has bounded-capacity resizable Hadoop cluster’s complexity , where  is the approximate degree of . This finding remains valid in the MapReduce programming model, regardless of prior measurement. In particular, it gives a new and simple proof of lower bounds for robustness and other symmetric conjunctive predicates. We further characterize the discrepancy, approximate PageRank, and approximate trace distance norm of  in terms of well-studied analytic properties of , broadly generalizing several findings on small-bias resizable Hadoop cluster and agnostic inference. The method of this paper has also enabled important progress in multi-cloud resizable Hadoop cluster’s complexity.

Abstract :

This paper presents an integrated traction machine and converter topology that has bidirectional power flow capability between an electric vehicle and the dc or ac supply or grid. The in- ductances of the traction motor windings are used for bidirectional converter operation to transfer power eliminating the need for ex- tra inductors for the charging and vehicle-to-grid converter opera- tions. These operations are in addition to the vehicle traction mode operation. The electric power train system size and weight can be minimized with this approach. The concept has been analyzed with finite-element- coupled simulation with dynamic analysis software. Experimental results are also provided with electric machines. The interleaving technique has been used with the inductors to share the current and reduce the converter switching stresses

Abstract :

This paper presents a ground work for an improved non isolated fuzzy based DC-DC boost converter for high voltage applications based on the use of multiplier cells constituted by diodes and capacitors. Duty cycle can be varied from D=0 to D=1 without affecting the normal operation of the converter, the voltage stress for the diodes is reduced, and the voltage gain can be further increased by adjusting the turns ratio. The fuzzy logic control has been implemented for converter switching control. The entire control concept has been implemented using SIMULINK model. The converter achieves  good efficiency, reduced switching losses, and also energy is transferred from the source to the load during most part of the switching period, which is a distinct characteristic of the proposed converter, since in other boost-type converters it only occurs during half of the switching period. The converter can be used to uninterruptible power supplies and is also adequate to operate as a high gain boost stage cascaded with inverters in renewable energy systems. Furthermore, it can be used to systems that demand dc voltage step up such as electrical fork-lift, renewable energy conversion systems, and many  other applications.
